Bene Israel : Jews of Mumbai - Hanna remembers all
Hanna talks about growing up in the multicultural, multi-faith metropolis of 1940s Bombay. Her stories reveal a city where anti-Semitism was and is all but unknown and where a multiplicity of faith groups have lived side-by-side, usually in peace and amity, for generations. She describes her memories of celebrations in the synagogue and the community, her love of sport and has a few words to say about the younger generation today in her new home in Melbourne, Australia.

They are Israelites, not Jews. Hence the title, Bene Israel. They are descended from the House of Israel (the ancient northern tribes), NOT from ben Yehuda (i.e. Yehudim, Jews, ancient southern tribes). Tradition and ignorance often blinds most people from the truth.
